The Weightlifting club at St Birinus School was established over 25 years ago and has produced over 15 international lifters and many more GB athletes
St. Birinus Weightlifting club is a high-achieving, dedicated Olympic Weightlifting club. Run out of a lottery-funded gym at St. Birinus School, the club is made up of current and former school pupils competing, both nationally and internationally.
The club first started over 35 years ago and since then has seen over 10 lifters go on to compete for Great Britain internationally. In 2014, Ben Watson competed at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and took Bronze overall after winning the Snatch.
The club has seen many English and British Champions right from a school (years 7 to 11) level up to senior.
Along with coaching school pupils, the club also offers it's coaching services to outside clubs and independent lifters.
